I cry aloud to You, O God,
I lift my voice, and You hear me.
In my day of trouble, I seek You,
through the night, my hands are lifted in prayer,
and my soul refuses to be comforted.
I remember You, O God, and I am restless;
I meditate, and my spirit grows faint.
You hold my eyes open through the night;
I am too troubled to speak.
I think of days long past,
the years when my heart was full of song.
I remember my melodies in the night,
and my soul asks:
"Has the Lord rejected me forever?
Will His kindness never return?
Has His love ceased?
Have His promises come to an end?
Has God forgotten to be gracious?
Has He shut off His mercy in His grief?"
Then I said, “This is my weakness—
but I will remember the years of the Most High.”
I will reflect on all You have done, O Lord,
and I will meditate on Your mighty works.
Your ways, O God, are beyond all others.
Who is as great as You?
You are the God who works wonders,
who reveals Your power among the people.
With a mighty arm, You redeemed Your children,
guiding them in steadfast love.
The waters saw You, O God, the depths trembled,
the very seas swirled in awe of Your presence.
The clouds poured forth rain,
thunder rolled across the heavens,
Your arrows flashed in every direction.
Your voice thundered in the whirlwind;
lightning lit up the earth,
and the world trembled and shook.
Yet Your path was through the sea,
Your way through the mighty waters,
though Your footprints were unseen.
You led Your people like a shepherd,
guiding them by the hands of Moses and Aaron.
