Psalms of David - Modern Translation - Psalm 78

Listen, my people, to my teaching,
open your hearts to the words of my wisdom.

I will share lessons from the past,
truths passed down through time.

We will not hide them from the children to come;
we will tell of God's glorious deeds,
His power, and the wonders He has done.

He established His word among us,
guiding us through faithful teachers,
so each generation would trust in Him,
remembering His love and His works.

Yet they often turned away,
forgetting the God who rescued them.

In the wilderness, He provided for them,
yet they tested Him in their hearts.

They asked, “Can God prepare a feast in the desert?”
They saw Him split the rock, bringing water,
yet still they doubted His care.

God grieved at their disbelief,
yet in mercy, He opened the heavens,
raining down manna, the bread of angels,
giving them food in abundance.

He sent the wind to bring quail,
filling them with the food they desired.

But still, their hearts wandered,
and they forgot the One who saved them.

Again and again, He called them back,
forgiving, leading, and blessing them.

He guided them like a shepherd,
with tenderness and strength,
yet they strayed, turning to empty ways.

Even so, His love remained,
His covenant unbroken.

He chose David, a servant of His heart,
to lead with wisdom and compassion,
to shepherd His people in faithfulness.
