Psalms of David - Modern Translation - Psalm 75

We give thanks to You, O God,
we give thanks, for Your name is near.

Your wonders are told among the people,
and we rejoice in Your presence.

"You say, ‘At the appointed time, I will act.

Though the earth trembles and its people falter,
I steady its foundations with My hand.’"

To those who exalt themselves, You say,
"Do not boast.

Do not lift yourselves up in pride,
do not speak with arrogance."

For honor does not come from the east or the west,
nor from the north or the south.

It is God alone who lifts up and brings low,
who sets things right according to His wisdom.

In His hand is a cup, full and overflowing;
He pours it out upon the earth.

Those who reject His ways will taste its weight,
but the faithful will find refuge in Him.

As for me, I will declare His goodness forever,
I will sing praises to the God of love and truth.

For He brings down the prideful
and lifts up those who trust in Him.
