Psalms of David - Modern Translation - Psalm 106

Hallelujah!
Give thanks to the Lord,
for He is good;
His faithful love endures forever.

Who can fully declare the mighty acts of the Lord,
or proclaim all His praise?

Blessed are those who live with justice,
who always do what is right.

Remember me, O Lord,
when You show favor to Your people;
come to me with Your salvation,

that I may see the good of those You have chosen,
that I may rejoice in the joy of Your people,
and share in the glory of those who are faithful.

We have gone astray, as our ancestors did;
we have done wrong, we have acted foolishly.

When our forebears were in Egypt,
they did not remember Your wonders;
they did not trust in Your great love,
but rebelled by the sea, the Red Sea.

Yet You saved them for Your name’s sake,
to make Your mighty power known.

You rebuked the sea, and it parted;
You led them through the depths as on dry ground.

You rescued them from the hand of their foe,
redeemed them from the grip of their enemy.

The waters covered their pursuers;
not one of them remained.

Then they believed Your promises
and sang Your praise.

But soon they forgot Your works;
they did not wait for Your counsel.

In the wilderness, they craved selfish desires;
they tested God in the desert.

So He gave them what they asked for,
but it brought leanness to their souls.

They grew jealous of Moses in the camp,
and of Aaron, the holy one of the Lord.

The earth opened and swallowed Dathan;
it covered the followers of Abiram.

Fire blazed among their company;
flames consumed the wicked.

They made a calf at Horeb
and worshiped an idol of metal.

They exchanged the glory of God
for the image of an ox that eats grass.

They forgot God, their Savior,
who had done great things in Egypt,

wonders in the land of Ham,
awesome deeds at the Red Sea.

So He spoke of wiping them out,
but Moses, His chosen one,
stood in the gap before Him,
to turn away disaster.

They despised the promised land,
they did not believe His word.

They grumbled in their tents,
and did not listen to the voice of the Lord.

So He swore to let them wander,
to scatter them among the nations.

They joined in the worship of idols,
trapping themselves in corruption.

They even sacrificed their sons and daughters
to false gods,

spilling innocent blood,
the blood of their own children,
whom they offered to idols of Canaan,
and the land was stained with blood.

Thus they were defiled by their deeds,
polluted by their actions.

So the Lord allowed them to be taken by their enemies,
and they were subdued under foreign rule.

Many times He delivered them,
but they continued in their ways
and fell deeper into trouble.

Yet He saw their distress,
and He heard their cries.

For their sake, He remembered His covenant,
and in His great love,
He turned toward them in mercy.

He caused even their captors
to show them kindness.

Save us, O Lord our God,
and gather us from among the people,
that we may give thanks to Your holy name,
and rejoice in Your praise.

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
from everlasting to everlasting!

Let all the people say, “Amen!”
Hallelujah!
