Psalms of David - Modern Translation - Psalm 104

Praise the Lord, O my soul!
O Lord my God, You are magnificent,
clothed in splendor and light.

You stretch out the heavens like a tent,
laying the beams of Your dwelling upon the waters.

You make the clouds Your chariot,
riding on the wings of the wind.

You make the winds Your messengers,
flames of fire Your servants.

You set the earth on its foundation,
so it shall never be shaken.

You covered it with the deep as a garment,
the waters stood above the mountains.

At Your command, they fled;
at the sound of Your voice, they hurried away.

Mountains rose, valleys sank,
to the place You appointed for them.

You set a boundary they cannot cross,
so they will never again cover the earth.

You make springs pour forth in the valleys,
flowing between the hills.

They give water to every living creature,
the wild donkeys quench their thirst.

The birds of the sky nest by the waters,
singing among the branches.

You water the mountains from Your heavens,
the earth is satisfied by Your abundance.

You cause the grass to grow for the cattle,
and plants for people to cultivate,
bringing forth food from the earth:
wine to gladden the heart,
oil to make faces shine,
bread to strengthen the body.

The trees of the Lord are well-watered,
the cedars He planted in Lebanon.

There, the birds make their nests;
the stork has its home in the fir trees.

The high mountains belong to the wild goats,
the cliffs are a refuge for the rock badgers.

You made the moon to mark the seasons,
the sun knows when to set.

You bring darkness, and night falls,
when the creatures of the forest stir.

The lions roar for their prey,
seeking their food from God.

When the sun rises, they withdraw,
and rest in their dens.

People go out to their work,
to labor until evening.

O Lord, how countless are Your works!
In wisdom, You made them all;
the earth is full of Your riches.

Here is the vast sea, teeming with creatures,
beyond number—living things both great and small.

There, the ships go back and forth,
and Leviathan, which You formed to play there.

All creatures look to You
to give them food at the right time.

When You provide, they gather it up;
when You open Your hand, they are satisfied with good things.

When You hide Your face, they tremble;
when You take away their breath, they return to dust.

When You send forth Your Spirit, they are created,
and You renew the face of the earth.

May the glory of the Lord endure forever;
may the Lord rejoice in His works—
He who looks at the earth, and it trembles,
who touches the mountains, and they smoke.

I will sing to the Lord all my life,
I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.

May my meditation be pleasing to Him,
for I rejoice in the Lord.

Let all that opposes love and truth fade away.

Praise the Lord, O my soul!
Hallelujah!
