Psalms of David - Modern Translation - Psalm 22

My God, my God, I call out to You—
why do I feel so far from Your presence?

Day and night, I lift my voice,
yet I wait for Your answer.

But You, O Lord, are holy,
enthroned in the praises of Your people.
Our teachers trusted in You,
and You rescued them.

They cried out, and You delivered them;
they relied on You and were never abandoned.

Though I feel weary, I know You are near.

You formed me in my mother’s womb,
You have been my God from the beginning.
Do not be far from me now,
for trouble surrounds me,
and I need Your strength.

Yet I will declare Your name among the people,
I will sing praises to You in every place.

For You have not ignored the suffering of the hurting,
nor turned away from those who seek You.

When they call, You answer with love.
All the world will remember and turn to You, O Lord,
and Your kindness will be known throughout all time.

The next generations will hear of Your goodness,
and those yet to be born will rejoice in Your love.
