As a deer longs for flowing streams,
so my soul longs for You, O God.
My soul thirsts for the living God;
when can I stand before You and be filled with Your light?
Day and night, my tears have been my food,
as others ask me, "Where is your God?"
But I remember, and my heart rises in hope—
how I once walked with joy among the people,
singing praises in the house of the Lord.
Why are you downcast, O my soul?
Why so restless within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise Him,
my Savior and my God!
Deep calls to deep in the sound of Your waters;
Your waves and breakers roll over me.
Yet You, O Lord, pour out Your love each day,
and in the night, Your song is with me—
a prayer to the God of my life.
I say to God, my refuge,
"Why must I walk in sorrow,
oppressed by those who doubt?"
Yet still, I will trust in You.
Why are you downcast, O my soul?
Why so restless within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise Him,
my Savior and my God!
