Psalms of David - Modern Translation - Psalm 88

O Lord, God of my salvation,
I cry out to You day and night.

Let my prayer rise before You,
turn Your ear to my plea.

My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow,
my strength is fading away.

I feel as though I am sinking into darkness,
as one forgotten and left alone.

I am counted among those with no hope,
like one who has lost their way.

You see my troubles, O Lord,
You know the weight upon my heart.

Yet still, I call out to You,
my hands lifted toward Your mercy.

Why do I feel so far from Your light?
Why does grief cover me like a shadow?

Even my closest friends seem distant,
my joy has faded like the setting sun.

But I will not turn from You, O God—
even in sorrow, I seek Your presence.

You are my refuge, my only hope,
and though night surrounds me,
I trust that Your dawn will come.
