Psalms of David - Modern Translation - Psalm 72

 O God, grant the king Your wisdom,
and the ruler Your sense of justice,

that he may judge the people with fairness,
and the poor with righteousness.

May the mountains bring peace to the people,
and the hills bring forth justice.

May he defend the cause of the needy,
rescue the poor,
and shatter the grip of oppression.

May he live as long as the sun endures,
as long as the moon lights the night,
throughout all time.

May he be like rain falling on fields of blessing,
like showers that refresh the earth.

In his days may righteousness flourish,
and peace abound until the moon is no more.

May his dominion stretch from sea to sea,
from the rivers to the ends of the earth.

May those in distant lands bow before him,
and may his enemies embrace peace.

May the kings of great nations bring him gifts,
may the rulers of all lands serve him.

For he delivers the poor when they call,
the helpless who have no one to aid them.

He has compassion on the weak and the needy;
he rescues their lives from harm.

He redeems them from oppression and violence,
for their lives are precious in his sight.

Long may he live!
May the wealth of the earth be given for his service.

May prayers rise for him continually,
and blessings be upon him all day long.

May the land flourish with abundance,
may its fields be as rich as the forests,
and may the cities thrive like gardens in bloom.

May his name endure forever,
his legacy shine as long as the sun.

May all nations be blessed through him,
and may they call him beloved.

Blessed be the Lord, the God of all—
the One who alone does wondrous things.

Blessed be His glorious name forever;
may His splendor fill all the earth.
