Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;
His faithful love endures forever.
Let those redeemed by the Lord say so,
those He has rescued from trouble,
gathered from lands far and wide,
from east and west, from north and south.
Some wandered in the wilderness,
lost and without a home.
Hungry and thirsty,
their souls grew faint within them.
Then they cried out to the Lord in their distress,
and He delivered them from their trouble.
He led them by a straight path
to a place where they could settle.
Let them give thanks to the Lord for His love,
for His wondrous works among the people.
For He satisfies the thirsty,
and fills the hungry with good things.
Some sat in darkness,
bound in misery and chains,
for they had rebelled against God's word
and rejected His wisdom.
So He humbled them with hardship;
they stumbled, and no one helped them.
Then they cried out to the Lord in their distress,
and He saved them from their trouble.
He brought them out of the darkness,
broke apart their chains.
Let them give thanks to the Lord for His love,
for His wondrous works among the people.
For He shatters the gates of bronze
and breaks through the bars of iron.
Some became sick through their own folly,
afflicted because of their wrongdoing.
They lost all desire for food,
drawing near to the gates of death.
Then they cried out to the Lord in their distress,
and He saved them from their trouble.
He sent forth His word and healed them,
rescued them from the grave.
Let them give thanks to the Lord for His love,
for His wondrous works among the people.
Let them offer sacrifices of gratitude,
and tell of His works with joyful song.
Some went down to the sea in ships,
doing business on mighty waters.
They saw the works of the Lord,
His wonders in the deep.
At His word, a storm arose,
lifting up the waves of the sea.
They rose to the sky,
then plunged to the depths;
their courage melted in terror.
They reeled and staggered like drunkards,
at their wits' end.
Then they cried out to the Lord in their distress,
and He saved them from their trouble.
He stilled the storm to a whisper,
and the waves became calm.
They rejoiced in the quiet,
and He led them to their desired haven.
Let them give thanks to the Lord for His love,
for His wondrous works among the people.
Let them exalt Him in the gathering,
and praise Him among the elders.
He turns rivers into desert,
flowing springs into dry land,
fruitful fields into barren ground,
because of the wickedness of those who dwell there.
Yet He turns desert into pools of water,
parched land into flowing springs.
There He settles the hungry,
and they build a city where they can dwell.
They sow fields and plant vineyards,
and they yield a fruitful harvest.
By His blessing, they multiply greatly,
and He does not let their herds diminish.
When they are humbled by oppression and sorrow,
when they suffer through hardship and toil,
He pours contempt on the proud
and causes them to wander in a trackless waste.
But He lifts the needy out of affliction
and makes their families flourish like a flock.
The upright see and rejoice,
but the wicked shut their mouths.
Let those who are wise consider these things
and understand the faithful love of the Lord.
