Psalms of David - Modern Translation - Psalm 53

The foolish say in their hearts,
"There is no guiding light."

Their ways turn to harm and selfish gain;
they walk without understanding.

God looks upon the world,
seeking those who turn their hearts to Him,
but many have strayed,
choosing their own way over His wisdom.

Do they not see?

Those who take and take,
who consume without care,
they do not call upon the Lord.

But fear will come upon them,
for they build their lives on shifting ground.

Yet God is the refuge of the faithful,
the One who lifts up His people.

O that salvation would shine forth in fullness!

When the Lord restores His people,
joy will rise, and hearts will sing,
for God’s presence will dwell among them.
