Psalms of David - Modern Translation - Psalm 37

Do not be troubled by those who pursue harm,
nor envy those who act without kindness.

For like grass, they will wither away,
like flowers in the field, they will fade.

Trust in the Lord and walk in His ways,
dwell in His care, and you will be nourished.

Delight in the Lord,
and He will fulfill the deepest desires of your heart.

Commit your path to the Lord,
trust in Him, and He will bring it to pass.

He will shine His light upon your goodness,
and make your justice shine like the noonday sun.

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him.

Do not be distressed by those who seem to prosper in wrongdoing.

Let go of anger, release all resentment.

Do not be drawn into ways that lead away from peace.

For those who turn from love will fade away,
but those who trust in the Lord
will inherit God’s abundance.

A little while longer, and harm will pass,
you will look for it, but it will be no more.

But the humble and kind
will receive their place in God’s dominion,
and will delight in deep peace.

The unkind may plot against the just,
but God sees all and is never shaken.

God laughs, knowing their schemes will not last.

Though some may seek harm,
their own cruelty will undo them,
for their ways cannot stand in God’s light.

Better is a little with righteousness
than great wealth without compassion.

For the strength of the just is upheld by God,
and He watches over their days.

Those who turn from love will fade,
but the ones God blesses
will dwell in the fullness of His presence.

The steps of those who trust in the Lord
are made firm by His guidance,
and in His way, they find delight.

If they stumble, they will not fall,
for God holds them in His hands.

I have been young and now am old,
but I have never seen the faithful abandoned,
nor their children without kindness.

They always give freely and bless others,
and in return, they are blessed.

Turn from harm and do good,
so you may dwell in peace forever.

For God loves justice
and does not abandon those who seek Him.

The kind-hearted will always be sheltered,
but those who choose cruelty
will lose their way.

The faithful will inherit God’s abundance
and dwell with Him always.

Wisdom speaks through those who love God,
and His truth is in their hearts.

Their steps will not falter.

Even when trouble rises against them,
God will be their refuge.

Wait for the Lord and walk in His path,
and He will lift you up
to receive your place in His dominion.

I have seen those who rise in pride and power,
but they pass away like the fading grass.

Look for them, but they are gone,
while the humble remain secure in God.

See the faithful and learn from them—
there is a future for those who seek peace.

But those who choose destruction will vanish;
their ways will not endure.

The salvation of the just comes from the Lord;
He is their shelter in times of trouble.

The Lord helps them and delivers them,
He lifts them up and rescues them,
because they take refuge in Him.
