Psalms of David - Modern Translation - Psalm 144

Blessed be the Lord, my rock,
who trains my hands for battle,
my fingers for war.

He is my steadfast love and my fortress,
my stronghold and my deliverer,
my shield in whom I take refuge,
who subdues the forces against me.

Lord, what are human beings that You take notice of them,
mere mortals that You care for them?

They are like a breath;
their days pass like a fleeting shadow.

Lord, part the heavens and come down;
touch the mountains so they smoke.

Send forth lightning and scatter the enemy;
shoot Your arrows and rout them.

Reach down from on high; rescue me,
save me from the mighty waters,
from the hand of those whose words are false,
whose right hands are deceitful.

I will sing a new song to You, O God;
on the harp of ten strings I will make music to You,

To the One who gives victory to kings,
who delivers His servant David from the deadly sword.

Rescue me and save me
from the hand of those whose words are false,
whose right hands are deceitful.

Then our sons will be like well-nurtured plants,
growing strong in their youth.

Our daughters will be like graceful pillars,
carved to adorn a palace.

Our barns will be filled,
overflowing with every kind of provision.

Our sheep will increase by the thousands,
by tens of thousands in our fields.

Our oxen will be strong for work;
there will be no breach in our walls,
no exile, no cry of distress in our streets.

Blessed are the people who have this;
blessed are the people whose God is the Lord.
