Psalms of David - Modern Translation - Psalm 137

By the rivers of Babylon,
we sat and wept,
remembering Zion.

There on the willows,
we hung up our harps,
for our captors demanded songs,
our oppressors asked for mirth, saying,
"Sing us one of the songs of Zion!"

But how can we sing the Lord’s song
in a foreign land?

If I forget you, O Jerusalem,
let my right hand forget its skill.

Let my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth
if I do not remember you,
if I do not set Jerusalem
as my highest joy.

Remember, O Lord, what was done in our sorrow,
when enemies sought to erase our name.

O Lord, bring justice with Your wisdom,
and restore what has been broken.

Blessed are those who trust in the Lord,
for He will bring peace and healing.

In His time, all things will be made right.
