Psalms of David - Modern Translation - Psalm 129

Many times they have oppressed me from my youth—
let the people of God now say—
Many times they have oppressed me from my youth,
but they have not prevailed against me.

They plowed my back with deep furrows,
carving their oppression into my flesh.

But the Lord is righteous;
He has cut the cords of the wicked.

May all who hate Zion
be turned back in shame.

May they be like grass on the rooftops,
which withers before it can grow,
That cannot fill the hands of the reaper,
nor the arms of those who gather sheaves.

And may no one passing by say,
"The blessing of the Lord be upon you;
we bless you in the name of the Lord."
